Curricula and Programs

Engineering Physics, Bachelor of Science Degree
in the College of Engineering

This is our highly ranked core program in physics. It's designed to prepare students for graduate study in physics or a related scientific field. It also provides an excellent foundation for a wide variety of technical and professional careers. Students gain a solid foundation in physics, mathematics, and basic laboratory techniques. A technical/professional elective requirement is met through a diverse range of pre-approved elective options, including pre-law, pre-med, business, acoustical physics, astrophysics, atmospheric science, biophysics, computational physics, computer engineering, energy & sustainability, materials science, nuclear physics, and optical physics. Or, students may design their own elective options, subject to departmental approval.

Specialized Physics Curriculum, Bachelor of Science Degree
in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The LAS Specialized Curriculum in Physics is a highly competitive program designed for students who plan to pursue graduate study in physics or a closely allied field. The curriculum provides a firm foundation in physics, mathematics, and basic laboratory techniques. The curriculum provides less flexibility than the LAS Physics Concentration, and so is less suited to students planning to enroll in a double major or minor.

Science and Letters Physics Concentration, Bachelor of Science Degree
in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The LAS Science and Letters Curriculum is a rigorous program for students who plan to pursue technical or professional careers in areas requiring a sound understanding of physical science and mathematics. The curriculum prepares students for employment immediately upon graduation or for continuing on to graduate study in a wide variety of fields. This degree path provides more flexibility than Engineering Physics and is often the choice of students who elect to pursue a dual degree, a double major, or a major with a minor. The technical/professional elective requirement for LAS Physics is met through a diverse range of pre-approved elective options, including pre-law, pre-med, business, astrophysics, atmospheric science, biophysics, computational physics, energy & sustainability, and materials science. Or, students may design their own elective options, subject to departmental approval.

Physics Teaching Concentration, Bachelor of Science Degree with a Minor in Education
in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Completion of this concentration fulfills state certification requirements to teach both physics and general science.

Minor in Physics

Physics and technology go hand in hand, with physics providing the foundation for a broad range of technical fields.
