Ask The Van

I am a sceptic of relativity theory and am trying to become a believer. As far as I know (about this theory), time slows down when some one travels at the speed of light. What about blind people ? Will this effect happen for them as well ?.. I am curious because blind people have nothing to do with light.

Summer Registration

By Kevin Pitts
July 8, 2012

Over the summer, incoming freshman come to campus for a day which includes an orientation, academic advising and an opportunity to register for fall classes.     For international students who can’t travel to campus for a day, we do online advising using a program called Elluminate, and it’s very effective.

The students have homework that they need to do before coming to campus. This includes reviewing the courses they want to take and also taking some online placement exams. For the students who do their homework (which is most of them!) registration is a smooth process. For those who blow off their homework, this is their first lesson about responsibility at college. Some will learn and do quite well, but a few others won’t learn and their first year will be a quite a struggle.

We have a handful of new students in the Department almost every day this summer. Merissa does a great job working with them, and Toni helps out when needed. It’s great to see the excited young faces of our next freshman class.   And we have to stay on our toes making sure that we have seats in all of our courses for them.
