Academics

Teaching is a core mission of Illinois Physics, and this is apparent at all program levels. Our core curriculum offers a firm grounding in physics, math, and technical communications. Special interest courses are offered each semester, at the introductory level ranging from the physics of societal issues, to physics and the arts, to physics careers, and at the advanced level, covering a wide spectrum of newly emerged research areas in physics.

Excellence in teaching correlates to a higher caliber of scientific training for our students, which in turn enhances our research efforts. While all of our faculty share this commitment, our nationally recognized Physics Education Research Group leads the department's efforts in developing and sharing the most effective, modern teaching tools and methodologies. We have cultivated the highest standards of teaching excellence among our faculty, instructors, and highly trained teaching assistants.
