The Spring 2019 Physics Careers seminar series continues on Friday, February 8, 2019 with alumna Dr. Chi Xue:

Time: 11 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 (refreshments served at 10:30 a.m.)

Location: 204 Loomis Laboratory (Interaction Room)

Title: Quant on the (Wacker) Street

Speakers: Dr. Chi Xue, Quantitative Researcher, Sunrise Futures, LLC

Abstract: For students who are curious about the financial market in general, I will give a brief introduction to the market and some financial instruments. For physicists who consider job opportunities in the financial sector, I will share what it’s like to work at a prop trading boutique like Sunrise Futures. For new graduates who are looking for jobs, I will cover the job hunting process and some tips.

Bio: Chi was a graduate student of Professor Nigel Goldenfeld. Her research was on dynamics in multi-scale biological systems, including stochastic interaction of genomic elements, biodiversity in ecosystems and species-environment interaction in evolution. She graduated in May 2018 and now works as a quantitative researcher at Sunrise Futures. Her job focuses on looking for trading patterns and signals by analyzing market data.

Chi may have time to meet with interested students while she's here. If you're interested in meeting with Chi on Friday, Feb. 8, contact Lance Cooper and I'll try to find a time to meet.
