The Fall 2019 Physics Careers Seminar series continues on Oct. 4 next week with a presentation by alumnus Dr. Wathid Assawasunthonnet From Kite:

Time: 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2019 (refreshments served at 10:30 a.m.)

Location: 204 Loomis Laboratory (Interaction Room)

Title: From Physics PhD to a Career in Machine Learning

Speaker: Dr. Wathid Assawasunthonnet, Machine Learning Engineer, Kite

Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss my journey of transitioning from a condensed matter theorist to a Machine Learning engineer. In particular, I will share which relevant skills I learned at UIUC, and how to leverage your physics degree. I will also shed some light on how similar and different the two fields are, on what a day in a life as a Machine Learning engineer looks like, and much more.

Dr. Assawasunthonnet is available to meet with interested students on Friday, Oct. 4 next week, so if you're interested in discussing opportunities at Kite or in machine learning with him, please let me know and I'll try to set up a meeting.
