The Sing lab in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department has an opening for a graduate Ph.D. student for a project in theoretical soft matter and statistical mechanics. This project will be to develop new tools in polymer self-consistent field theory and dynamic field theory to model the equilibrium and dynamics of a new class of macromolecular materials combining block copolymers with 'conserved dynamic bonds'. This project aims to predict how these materials assemble on nm-length scales, and how the dynamics of this assembly is affected by the rearrangement kinetics of non-permanent covalent bonds. This work will be in close collaboration with experimentalists in the Evans group in the Materials Science department. Interested students should contact Prof. Sing via email (cesing@illinois).
