Join us for a series of virtual events dedicated to helping you succeed in grad school and beyond.

Every day at noon.

These workshops start at noon, do not require registration, and will be available through Zoom at https://go.grad.illinois.edu/eventspace.

Data Analysis with Excel (Monday, 2/22)

Use Excel to perform basic data analysis, including wrangling, cleaning, and visualization. In this hands-on workshop, participants will follow along in Excel using a provided dataset on their own devices. All are welcome, but those comfortable with data analytics tools and methods in general or Excel, in particular, may benefit from a more advanced workshop.

Inclusive and Accessible Communication (Tuesday, 2/23)

Learn tools, tips, and strategies to make your presentations/communication more inclusive and accessible to individuals with disabilities. Participants will gain a greater awareness of visible/non-visible disabilities (i.e., autism, ADHD, learning disabilities), typical accommodations, and a better understanding of using accessible technology during events (i.e., blind, low-vision, deaf, hard of hearing).

Talking About Your Research (Wednesday, 2/24)

Whether it's for a job interview, a grant proposal, or a chat with family, you need to be able to communicate your research to different people in different contexts. In this workshop, you'll learn strategies for talking about your work effectively with various audiences and watch examples of skilled presenters at work.

Writing Your First CV (Thursday, 2/25)

We will cover the basics of preparing an effective CV, such as what sections to include and how to format the document to highlight your experience. Whether this is your first time creating an academic CV in grad school or you're looking to refresh your current CV, this workshop is right for you!

Data Analysis with Python (Friday, 2/26)

Use Python to perform basic data analysis, including wrangling, cleaning, and visualization. In this hands-on workshop, participants will follow along in Python using a provided dataset on their own devices. We'll use Google Colab as our Python environment; Colab comes as part of Drive, so there’s no need to download special software. You are welcome to use whatever environment you’d like. All are welcome, but those comfortable with data analytics tools and methods in general or Python, in particular, may benefit from a more advanced workshop.
