The Fall 2013 Physics Careers seminar series opens on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 with alumnus Xu Wang (PhD '12):

Time: 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 (refreshments served at 10:30 a.m.)

Location: 204 Loomis Laboratory (Interaction Room)

Title:  Semiconductor Industry Job Hunting, In Retrospect

Speaker: Dr. Xu Wang, Intel Mobile Communications

Abstract:  This is a very informal talk about one guy's effort to secure a job in the semiconductor industry. He did pull it off despite all the confusions and mistakes of a first time job seeker. After the dust settled and his job started, he couldn't help but to ask around to see how and why he ended up where he did. He hopes that the tidbits he found out can be helpful to other physics grad students thinking about a similar career path.

Bio: BA, Physics+Math, Grinnell College, 2004. PhD, Condensed matter physics, UIUC, 2012. Thesis advisor: Raffi Budakian. Currently failure analysis engineer at Intel Mobile Communications.

Note: While he's in Urbana, Xu will not be recruiting, but he is interested in meeting with any students interested in discussing job opportunities in the semiconductor industry. If you would like to meet with him on Friday, Sept. 20, please send me an e-mail, slcooper@illinois.edu, so I can arrange a meeting.
