The greatest strength of Illinois Physics is its people. Our faculty are well supported by a dedicated staff, and our postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students are of the highest caliber. Together, we tackle the most pressing unanswered questions in physics.

Ours is a forward-looking department, steeped in an illustrious past. Since its creation in 1889, some of the world's greatest scientific minds have graced our lecture halls, laboratories, and offices—and still do today. We recognize that we owe our tradition of intellectual openness, creativity, and collaboration—the "Urbana style of physics"—to those scientists who came before, and that this tradition remains a tremendous advantage today.
