Students at all levels of their undergraduate career benefit from academic advising, and it's mandatory that students meet at regular intervals with the advisor to review program requirements and progress toward degree.

The philosophy behind our department's one-on-one undergraduate student advising goes well beyond the parameters of prescriptive guidance and discussion of degree requirements. Senior Academic Advisor Merissa Milton leads physics majors through a self-evaluative process that takes into consideration intellectual goals and career aspirations. In addition to providing timely information about college policies and procedures pertaining to registration, course enrollment, academic status, and general degree requirements, Merissa is well connected within the University's network of enrichment opportunities for high-achieving students. She also connects at-risk students with academic-support and other resources and advocates for them, supporting and guiding the necessary return to good academic standing.

Merissa has a strong background in sociology and in educational policies studies with a concentration in diversity and equity issues. She is committed to being a positive agent toward improving the student climate on our campus for the benefit of the entire community.
