Dr. Nir Friedman to Give Second Physics Careers Seminar on Sept. 25

The Fall 2013 Physics Careers seminar series continues on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 with alumnus Dr. Nir Friedman (PhD '13):
Time: 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 (refreshments served at 10:30 a.m.)
Location: 204 Loomis Laboratory (Interaction Room)
Title: Academia and Industry: One Perspective
Speaker: Dr. Nir Friedman, Tower Research Capital
Abstract: I discuss some of the trade offs I've experienced between academic work and my job in industry. I'll also talk about what the process was like, good sectors to look for work in, good skills to have, and how you can use your time remaining in school to prepare.
Bio: Nir graduated from UIUC with a PhD in physics in May 2013 working on theoretical statistical physics. He started working at Tower Research, a high frequency trading company based in New York, in August.
