Alumnus Dr. Wah Kai Ngai Continues Spring 2015 Physics Careers Series on Feb. 25

The Spring 2015 Physics Careers seminar series continues on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 with alumnus Dr. Wah Kai (Daniel) Ngai:

Time: 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 (refreshments served at 10:30 a.m.)

Location: Rm 204 Loomis Laboratory (Interaction Room)

Title:  Physicists Can Code

Speaker: Dr. Wah Kai (Daniel) Ngai, Bloomberg L.P.

Abstract:   Software development is an ideal career alternative for physicists. In this talk, I will share my experience as a software developer in one of the world’s largest financial data provider, Bloomberg L.P. I will also discuss typical software development activities and how a physics background helps my daily work. Some useful tips to land a job in the software industry will be provided.

Bio:  Dr. Wah-Kai (Daniel) Ngai finished his bachelor degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and received his PhD from UIUC in 2012 for his work with Prof. Jen-Chieh Peng on the measurement of the neutrino mixing angle theta13 at Daya Bay. With extensive interest in programming, Daniel landed a job at Bloomberg as a software developer building various applications to satisfy business needs.

Note: While he's in Urbana, Daniel has some availability to meet with students interested in discussing a career in finance or at Bloomberg L.P.  If you would like to meet with him, please send me an e-mail, slcooper@illinois.edu, so I can try to arrange a meeting.
