Alumna Dr. Carrie Meldgin Gives Special April 13 Physics Careers Seminar on Post-PhD Finances

The Spring 2018 Physics Careers Seminar series continues on Friday, April 13, 2018, when alumna Dr. Carrie Meldgin from Pacific Gas & Electric Company will talk about "Transitioning to a Post-PhD Salary," at 11:00 a.m. in 204 Loomis.

Title: Transitioning to a Post-PhD Salary 

Speaker: Dr. Carrie Medlgin, Pacific Gas & Electric Company

Abstract: After building your network, skills, and resume, after landing a job you want, you will probably have a significantly higher salary. This talk is about money management strategies to help you achieve the goals you have post-PhD. We will focus on retirement planning, investing, and optimizing taxes. Other agenda items include debt, home ownership, insurance, and children.

Bio: Carrie Meldgin received her PhD in atomic physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016. In May 2016 she joined Pacific Gas and Electric Company as a Senior Quantitative Analyst in the Energy Procurement Quantitative Analysis group. She is enjoying stretching her analytical skills in new directions, including processing and analyzing big datasets, learning economics, statistics, and corporate finance, and building models that aid in reducing California’s carbon emissions.
