Sandia National Laboratory has a current opening for a postdoc who will support two complementary electronic materials research positions: https://www.sandia.gov/careers/career-possibilities/students-and-postdocs/internships-co-ops/postdoctoral-positions/
Postdoctoral Appointee - Electronic Materials and Devices; Job ID: 679087
Bidder Eligibility: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. Employees must remain in their current position for one year before applying for a new position, with the exception of student interns. Application of this requirement will not supersede collective bargaining agreements. See collective bargaining labor agreements for represented bidder eligibility requirements for represented employees.
Posting Duration: This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee interested in performing fundamental and applied research in the fields of electronic materials development and device physics! You will join a team of 6-8 researchers and will be expected to contribute to at least two high impact experimental programs. The fundamental research program involves the study of electron conduction in disordered metal-insulator composites. The applied research program involves developing electrical characterization techniques to identify aging or degradation mechanisms in commercial off the shelf (COTS) devices.
You will be expected to contribute and execute innovative research ideas, present your research at various internal and external forums, and publish your research in peer-reviewed journals. You will also be provided the opportunity to seek funding for additional research topics with the guidance and support of your staff mentors. This postdoctoral position is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking to transition from their PhD research to a fast-paced research and development environment in a National Lab setting that provides ample chances for both personal and professional enrichment.

About Our Team: The Electronic, Optical and Nanomaterials Department provides innovation in the design, synthesis and development of advanced, multifunctional materials to satisfy unique needs in electronic, optical, electrochemical, structural and selective-molecular-binding applications. We control chemical and structural characteristics, from the nano- to the micro-scale, in inorganic and hybrid systems to explore new material constructs and strategies aimed at optimizing and expanding material performance. Our efforts support DOE Defense Programs, DOE Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, DOE Electricity Distribution and Energy Reliability offices, other federal agencies and industry. In addition, we pursue partnerships with universities and establish ongoing collaborations with other experts in the field to leverage our research investments while participating in, and contributing to, the international research community. Research thrusts include nanoparticle, nanofiber, and atomic layer deposited materials, thin films, passive and active materials for electronic, magnetic, photonic, electromechanical, and fluidic microsystems, self-assembly, and colloid chemistry.

Security Clearance: Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO: All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
