Secondary Education, Pre-Med, and Pre-Law Program Tracks

For physics majors aspiring to a career in teaching, medicine, or law, we offer these program tracks. Enrollment and advising for these tracks is handled outside the Department of Physics.

Secondary Education Track

See the Teacher Education Minor in Secondary School Teaching for requirements. Prerequisites for the minor are listed below.

Students must

  • pass one of three state-approved basic skills tests (Test of Academic Proficiency; ACT Plus Writing; or SAT).
  • be in good academic standing.
  • have a math/physics GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Additionally, each major stipulates prerequisite courses that must be completed before admission to the teaching option. Interested students should see the academic advisor in their department for further information.

Pre-Med Track

Consult with the Pre-Law Advising Services at the Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services and work with your physics academic advisor to approve Pre-Law Track courses.

You must take a minimum of 12 hours beyond the courses applied toward your general education requirements in one or more of the following subjects:

  • history
  • political science
  • speech communication (SPCOM 111 and 112 recommended)
  • psychology
  • sociology
  • business administration
  • philosophy
  • literature
  • economics
  • accountancy
  • classics
  • computers
  • other courses that cover law and policy
