PhD Thesis Deposit and Assistantship Deadlines and Reminders
3/29/2012
Upcoming Deadlines:
April 6: Last day for doctoral students to take the final examination for a May 2012 graduation. Remember that you must be registered for the entire semester in which you take your dissertation defense. More information regarding doctoral examinations can be found here.
April 20: Last day for doctoral students to deposit their dissertations in the Graduate College Thesis Office for a May 2012 graduation. Additional Spring 2012 academic deadlines can be found here.
Important Registration and Assistantship Information:
1. Students with spring semester assistantship appointments (RA, TA, GA, PGA) may hold their assistantships through the end of the spring semester if they deposit anytime during the spring semester. For example, a student with a spring assistantship appointment processed to end May 15 may hold the assistantship through May 15, even if the student deposits the thesis anytime between now and the May 2012 graduation deposit deadline. The policy does not obligate the student to continue the assistantship.
2. The assistantship waiver remains in place if the student resigns from the assistantship and deposits on the same day or within 7 days following the resignation date.
3. Doctoral students must be registered the entire term in which they take the final defense. They do NOT need to be registered during the term in which they deposit.
4. To minimize tuition and fees for which you may be responsible, doctoral students who have completed sufficient credit hours for the degree and who are defending in Spring 2012 may wish to register for 0 credit hours during their final semester. Students who will be more than 50 miles from campus may wish to consider requesting to register in absentia.
5. International students should contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services if they plan to withdraw from all courses.
