Theoretical Astrophysics Research Presentation by Prof. Telemachos Mouschovias, Friday, Sept. 14
9/10/2012
Prof. Telemachos Mouschovias will give a research presentation about his theoretical astrophysics group in Phys. 596 (Physics Graduate Orientation) from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, in Rm. 144 Loomis.
Prof. Mouschovias works on the formulation of a theory of star formation, specifically accounting for the role of cosmic magnetic fields in the process. This is within the realm of nonideal, multifluid magnetohydrodynamics and involves the understanding of physical processes that lead from the mean density of the interstellar medium (about 1 cm-3) to the mean density of stars, such as the Sun (mean density of about 1024 cm-3). His calculations thus far have elucidated the physics of star formation up to densities of about 1015 cm-3.
Any graduate students interested in research opportunities in theoretical astrophysics -- even those not enrolled in Phys 596 -- are welcome to attend Phys. 596 class during Prof. Mouschovias' presentation.
