Dr. Lucas Wagner is Looking for Students to Join His Computational Condensed Matter Group

Dr. Lucas Wagner is currently looking for students to join his computational condensed matter group, in collaboration with Prof. David Ceperley. The position available will involve work on the long-standing problem of understanding the electronic structure of strongly correlated systems, including the problem of high temperature superconductivity.

The particular project here will use quantum Monte Carlo calculations to simulate electrons in strongly correlated systems, then evaluate moments of the many-body wave function to obtain connection to both theoretical models and to experimental measurements. A paper briefly illustrating the approach is available here: http://arxiv.org/abs/1210.2115.

Dr. Wagner's research uses concepts from physics, applied mathematics, computer science, and chemistry to get new insights on challenging physics problems. We are seeking students with a strong background in at least some of these fields; the projects are fairly flexible and can be adjusted based on the interests and talents of the student, within the field of computational many-body quantum mechanics. For some examples of the kind of work done in Dr. Wagner's group, please go to https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/lkwagner/www/.

Please contact Dr. Wagner at lkwagner@illinois.edu if you are interested in discussing a research opportunity with him.
