Postdoctoral Research Assistant Position in Condensed Matter Physics at Oxford University

Dr. Amalia Coldea (amalia.coldea@physics.ox.ac.uk) is looking for a postdoctoral research assistant to work on unconventional electronic phenomena found in novel correlated electronic systems or topological insulators using low-temperature transport and thermodynamic measurements, high magnetic fields, hydrostatic pressures or single crystal growth of novel materials. The post is available initially for fixed-term duration of 2 years with the possibility of extension for another year. The research will involve a combination of transport and thermodynamic measurements at ambient and hydrostatic pressures at very low tmperatures using high magnetic field facilities both in Oxford and at international facilitities or synthesis and characterization of crystalline metallic and superconducting materials. Applicants should possess, or be very close ot obtaining a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally have a strong background in the field of correlated electron systems or topological insulators with expertise in one or more of the following areas: experiments using high magnetic fields (including pulsed magnetic fields) and low temperatures, transport measurements using hydrostatic pressures, single crystal growth of metallic and superconducting systems, transport studies on thin films. Candidates are expected to demonstrate that they can manage their own research activity, coordinate multiple aspects of the work to meet deadlines, and show commitment to high standards of scientific research.
