Travel Grants for Global Young Scientists Summit in Singapore

The University of Illinois has been invited to send five representatives to this year’s Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS). Held in Singapore from January 18th to 23rd, 2015, GYSS brings together young researchers with acclaimed science and technology leaders from around the world. Speakers include recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Turing Award, and Millennium Technology Prize. Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers under the age of 35 in all STEM fields are eligible.
Travel grants will cover all costs associated with the conference including flight, lodging, meals, local transportation, and fees. Applicants apply through their departments, and each department may submit one nomination for the campus competition. Departmental nominations are due in the Graduate College by August 14.

A complete application includes the following:
-- Cover letter from the applicant explaining why he/she wishes to attend the conference (maximum 1 page, single-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman).
-- CV (maximum 2 pages).
-- Research Summary from the applicant explaining his/her current research, complete with statement of problem, significance, question/hypothesis, aims, and methods (maximum 1 page, single-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point font, Times New Roman). The Research Summary must be written in a manner that can be understood by a non-expert.
-- Letter of recommendation from the applicant's advisor.
