Laura Wadleigh and Gloria Lee Awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowships!

Illinois Physics graduate students Laura Wadleigh and Jia Gloria Lee were recently awarded 2015 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships.  Only 2000 fellowships were awarded from over 16,000 applications.

Laura, a first-year graduate student in the research group of Prof. Brian DeMarco, will use her award to study disorder in Bose-Hubbard systems using ultracold rubidium atoms in an optical lattice.  Gloria, a second-year graduate student in the research group of Prof. Tom Kuhlman, is using her award to study the biophysics of gene regulation in E. coli.

Illinois Physics grad student Stephen Gill, a PhD student in Prof. Nadya Mason's laboratory, received an Honorable Mention in the 2015 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship competition.

Congratulations to all three Illinois Physics graduate students!

Laura and Gloria join current Illinois Physics NSF graduate fellowship holders Brian Busemeyer, Courtney Byard, Rebecca Holmes, Nick LaRacuente, and Kiel Williams. Previous NSF graduate fellowship recipients currently at Illinois Physics include Taylor Byrum, Carrie Meldgin, and Josiah Walton.
