The Fall 2015 Physics Careers seminar series continues on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, with alumnus Dr. Kevin Zielnicki, Silicon Valley Data Science

Time: 11 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 (refreshments served at 10:30 a.m.)

Location: 204 Loomis Laboratory (Interaction Room)

Title: An Ode to Data, or, Careers in Data Science for Physicists

Speaker: Dr. Kevin Zielnicki, Silicon Valley Data Science

Abstract: Data science is growing and it needs physicists! If you like math and programming, or if your favorite part of research is data analysis, you might have a career in data science. I will talk about what working in data science entails and why physicists are particularly well-suited to it. I'll also share my experience and advice for considering a career in this field.

Bio: Kevin Zielnicki is a Data Engineer at Silicon Valley Data Science in Mountain View, CA. His experience includes developing distributed applications in a containerized environment, designing and implementing novel algorithms for customer churn prediction, and scaling models for production deployment. Kevin received a PhD in Physics from UIUC in May 2014, where he studied optical quantum information processing with Paul Kwiat. He now enjoys working with data that can be observed without changing its value.
