I have recently joined the ECE department after 8.5 years on the faculty at Yale, and I am searching for new graduate students to join my lab in the Micro and Nanotechnology Lab (MNTL). We do research at the intersection of materials science and electrical engineering on topics such as solar photovoltaics, nanostructured materials, and lasers/light emitters. Each student in my lab goes from materials to devices, and learns materials growth via molecular beam epitaxy, materials characterization (e.g. via electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, photoluminescence spectroscopy, etc.), device fabrication in the MNTL cleanroom, and device characterization. Sample research projects include: novel materials and devices for solar energy storage; high-efficiency, low-cost solar cells; self-assembled growth of nanocomposites, quantum dots, and other nanoscale materials; novel quantum well lasers.
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of our work, I have had the opportunity to advise numerous students and postdocs with degrees in physics, chemistry, materials science, and electrical engineering. I aim to create a highly collaborative group environment where students learn to work in teams and independently. My past advisees (6 PhD, 4 postdoc) have won 7 best presentation prizes at major conferences, and have gone on to positions in industry, national labs, and academia.
