Registration has just opened for the second annual Research Live! competition for graduate students.

Now in its second year, Research Live! asks graduate students from all disciplines to hone their presentation skills and highlight their work by giving a compelling 3-minute, 2-slide talk for a general audience.

You know that students in your program are engaged in exciting, ground-breaking research and creative work. You know just how impressive and interesting they can be. Now you can encourage your students to show off all that hard work and creativity at Research Live!.

Graduate students can learn more, find resources to help them prepare, and register to compete on this page. Registration closes on October 26. Last year, over 60 students competed in preliminary rounds and 12 took part in the finals. (You can view the finalists’ presentations here.) This year, we hope to have even more students participate from an even greater variety of disciplines.

The finals judges this year include:

-- Niala Boodhoo, Host & Executive Producer, The 21st, Illinois Public Media/WILL

-- Antoinette Burton, Director of the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities and Professor of History

-- Gene Robinson, Director of the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology and Professor of Entomology and Neuroscience

-- Vishal Sachdev, Director of the Illinois MakerLab

-- Daniel Simons, Professor of Psychology

Participants compete for four prizes: First Prize ($300), Second Prize ($200), Third Prize ($150), and People’s Choice ($100).
