A dynamic and creative individual is sought to create a new cross disciplinary effort in the area of materials physics. The Materials and Condensed Matter Physics (MCMP) group in the School of Physics and Astronomy is seeking to broaden its activities associated with advanced and functional materials, especially along lines of bio-inspired structure and high resolution imaging of low contrast soft matter. The MCMP has special expertise and capabilities in aberration corrected high resolution transmission electron microscopy, including advanced ion beam lithography, and PLD oxide/metal thin film deposition, with a suite of instruments valued at £4.2M. The MCMP has 28 research staff and students, with a grant portfolio consisting mainly of EPSRC, MRC and EU funding. The group is also a member of the EPSRC SuperSTEM consortium.

Proposals for research will be expected to demonstrate benefit from the MCMP’s well equipped and leading facilities, and detail how these will be used to form new sustainable linkages to other research efforts on-going within the University.
