Lance Cooper via Peter Schiffer

Available NOW –– the position will be filled only when a strong candidate is identified.

Terms: 1 year, renewable will depend on performance/progress, and annual renewal of NSF grant.

Salary: Standard Post-doc rates, including benefits

I am looking for a scientifically strong, highly-motivated, and independent candidate to work on a 3-year NSF project that has just been funded.

The project includes:

a) Lithographic methods to make patterned magnetic arrays. NIL+ ion milling to make nano-dot arrays and EBL for smaller elements/arrays are involved.

b) Structures will be made for FOUR different experiments –– (i) Spin ice probing their thermodynamic states, including MFM and possibly XMCD (ii) ML elements with exchange-coupling (iii) Exchange-coupled MQCA logic gates –– SEMPA (in collaboration with NIST) will be used to image these gates (iv) Magnonic crystals on YIG, studied by BLS (in collaboration with ANL) and novel Lorentz Microscopy (TEM) with in situ microwave excitation (in collaboration with U. Glasgow)

c) Micromagnetic modeling using LLG will be integral to all aspects of the project

The candidate should have done an experimental thesis in magnetism and magnetic materials. Experience in thin film deposition (sputtering), magnetic measurements (PPMS, MOKE, VSM), characterization (SEM, XRD, AFM/MFM), clean-room lithography processes (NIL, EBL), and micromagnetic modeling is required. Experience with TEM, SEMPA and BLS is desirable but not necessary.

Please send a Curriculum Vitae, with list of publications. Include a short summary of your thesis. Mention when you are available to start. Include a list of 3 names of reference, and their e-mail contact.

Please send all particulars to Prof. Kannan M. Krishnan Department of Materials Sciences & Engineering and Physics University of Washington, Seattle.
