The UIUC Graduate College is accepting nominations for travel awards to send graduate students to the 2019 Lindau-Nobel Meeting. The Lindau-Nobel Meeting, held annually in Lindau, Germany, brings Nobel Laureates together with top students from around the world for a week of lectures and small-group discussions. Each year’s meeting has a theme, and the 2019 theme is Physics. The meeting will take place June 30 - July 5, 2019.

To be eligible, students must: 1) be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, 2) be a full-time graduate student, 3) have completed by June 2019 at least two academic years of graduate studies in physics or a related field, and 4) not be planning a thesis defense before January 1, 2020.

Departments may nominate one student for consideration in the campus competition, and nominations are due in the Graduate College by September 20. The Graduate College will select two students to represent the University of Illinois in the national competition. Our department has had several grad students selected for this award in the past, including Michael Martini, William McGehee, and Hannah DeBerg.

If you are eligible and would like to be nominated, please talk with your advisor. Completed nominations must be sent to me by no later than Tuesday, Sept. 18 so we have time to select 1 physics department finalist and submit the selected nomination package to the Graduate College by 4:30 p.m. on September 20, 2018. For more information, see complete eligibility and nomination details.
