Postdoc Position at Los Alamos in Magnetic and Pinning Dynamics
9/21/2018 1:13:18 PM
Description: The Condensed Matter and Magnet Science group (CMMS-MPA) is seeking an exceptional postdoc to conduct research in superconducting vortex matter and skyrmions, with focus on pinning and dynamics. By designing, producing, and testing different pinning landscapes, we will understand vortex and skyrmions physics in a broad spectrum of materials with very different pinning properties, from very weak (clean) to very strong (optimized landscapes). The experimental part will be focused on magnetometry, electrical transport and Hall Effect techniques, as well as lithography and FIB to generate the abovementioned pinning potentials. Part of the work will be performed at the NHMFL-LANL using state of the art pulsed-fields techniques. Work within an interdisciplinary group of experimentalists and theorists at LANL and participate in an extensive network of external collaborations. Publish the research in the open literature and disseminate the results in presentations at domestic and international scientific conferences.
Minimum Job Requirements: Experience with condensed matter experimental physics Ability to work independently, creatively, and in a team environment Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Education: A Ph.D. in Physics or Material Science is required. The candidate must be within 5 years of completion of Ph.D. at time of being proposed for review by the committee and will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.
