On Wednesday, June 10, #ShutDownSTEM and #ShutDownAcademia events are planned, during which STEM workers and academics are encouraged to spend the day educating themselves on racial issues and working on plans to combat racism.
For more information: see https://www.shutdownstem.com/ and https://www.particlesforjustice.org/.
If interested in participating in #ShutDownSTEM on Wednesday, possible activities to consider include:
(1) Read some or all of the AIP's Team-Up Task Force report discussing ways to increase African-American representation in physics: https://www.aip.org/sites/default/files/aipcorp/files/teamup-full-report.pdf
(2) Read "Addressing STEM Culture and Climate to Increase Diversity in STEM Disciplines"
(3) Read "How to Actually Promote Diversity in STEM"
(4) Read "Here's How to Increase Diversity in STEM at the College Level and Beyond"
(5) Read Chapter 3 of the 2018 National Academy of Sciences Report on Graduate STEM Education for the 21st Century (this chapter applies to all graduate students, but also addresses specific issues for underrepresented minorities in STEM fields). For racial and gender diversity statistics in STEM fields, see Chapter 2, pgs. 37-55.
