The eligibility for the 2024-25 APS Congressional Science Fellowship has been expanded. Applicants with a master’s degree and three years of work experience in their degree field or science policy are now eligible for this extraordinary opportunity to work on Capitol Hill as a scientist alongside members of Congress. The fellowship entails working with policymakers and their staff to help them make informed decisions regarding public policy. The application deadline is December 1, 2023.

APS sponsors the fellowship as a public service by making available individuals with scientific knowledge and skills to members of Congress, few of whom have a technical background.

In turn, the program enables scientists to broaden their experience through direct involvement with legislative and policymaking processes and to make a difference in the physics community. Fellows serve one year on the staff of a senator, representative, or congressional committee beginning September 2024. Many fellows make connections that allow them to continue careers in science policy or public service.
