Ways to Give

Leave your mark on our legacy

Your support ensures that we remain a leader in engineering education, discovery, innovation, and sustained excellence. Together, we can continue to build on our history of distinction. Just as we've done for the last 150 years.

Contributions to the Physics Visionary Scholarship fund, administered by the Department of Physics scholarship committee, helps make our highly ranked core degree program, Engineering Physics, affordable for any student who can succeed here. EVS grows our diversity by increasing the number of students from groups historically underrepresented in physics, including women. EVS also increases our global impact by attracting the very best students with the highest potential to go on to make meaningful and lasting contributions within academia and research institutions, the private sector, and the military.

Contributions to the Physics Priority Fund (formerly, the Excellence in Physics Fund) are used in a variety of productive ways throughout the Department—to support our award-winning outreach programs, to provide student recruiting scholarships, to support undergraduate hands-on research projects, and to create a stimulating intellectual environment through support of special seminars, visiting scholars, and student travel to conferences and symposia.

The University of Illinois Foundation provides a variety of mechanisms for you to ensure the continued success and traditions of excellence that are the hallmarks of our department.

Other Ways to Give

Give By Mail

Please make gifts by check or money order payable to the "University of Illinois Foundation."

Mail to:
University of Illinois Foundation
1305 West Green Street, MC-386
Urbana, IL 61801

For the security of your gift, please do not send cash.

Gifts of Securities

Equities, bonds, mutual funds, and other financial instruments, may be donated to the Foundation, which may either manage or liquidate the assets in order to achieve your goals. A popular benefit of such a gift beyond the charitable income tax deduction that accrues is the avoidance, in most cases, of capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the securities.

Gifts of Property

Real estate, may be given with the same benefits as the gift of securities—no capital gains tax, plus deductibility at fair market value.

Wills or Living Trusts

Bequest in a will or living trust is the most common form of planned giving, which will benefit the department at some future date. The bequest may be given as a percentage of the total estate or trust, as the residual of the estate, or for a specific dollar amount. Specialists at the Foundation will work with you to structure a bequest that meets your goals.

Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts are charitable remainder trusts that provide a life income to the donor or designated beneficiaries while simultaneously benefitting the work of Physics now. They can be funded through gifts of stock, cash, or other assets during a donor's lifetime or through a testamentary disposition.

Gifts of Time or Service

We also welcome your gifts of time or service! If you can advise a student about career opportunities in your field, recommend the Department or the University of Illinois to prospective students, offer an internship at your company, or serve on our Physics Advisory Board, we'd really like to hear from you.
